5 AMAZING BENEFITS OF A PLANT-BASED WHOLE FOODS DIET
We’ve all heard the saying “you are what you eat,” and my question that follows is: how lively is your plate?
We asked a community of plant-based folks what plants have done for them. The results we heard were truly fantastic.
1. Mental Clarity
The first is a shift that lies in the brain. Everything processes faster and more efficiently when it’s not clogged up by junk food, as it produces mucus and inflammation in your body and brain.
Fruits and veggies are the best source of fuel for your mind. While unhealthy food is linked to dementia and depression, it’s shown that whole foods help protect against them and regulates your emotions.
Eating whole foods is a great way to increase your mental clarity and boost your memory/mood.
One friend described her plant-based diet as “a lightness in my body and mind, plus a skip in my step.”
The energy gained from a plant-based diet is incomparable to the boost from added sugar or caffeine. Instead of a constant rise and dip, whole foods provide consistent energy throughout the day that fades with your circadian rhythm.
Have you ever felt like you needed a nap after a big meal? Bread, pasta, fried foods, sugary foods, coffee, alcohol, and animal products are the biggest offenders, causing big insulin rises and dips. So don’t get bogged down with convenient food-like products.
(ie. Not Real Food)
Plants are full of energy and you can be too.
3. Pain Management
Autoimmune diseases, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease are deeply linked with inflammation. Reducing inflammation in your body can reverse chronic pain and has changed the lives of so many people with these ailments.
Filling your plate with foods that have high water content and fight inflammation will help your body to flush out toxins and ease your pain naturally. (think lots of Veggies/Beans/whole grains)
If you suffer from disease, a Whole Foods Plant-Based (WFPB) diet may be the secret to changing your life.
4. Clear Skin
Chemicals and other foreign invaders don’t always get filtered out of your body easily, but your body doesn’t want to hold on to them either. So when you make a huge diet change, it’s normal to have side effects.
Many people report the ‘detox flu,’ and it’s no joke. Skin is the largest human organ, and one of the ways your body gets rid of chemical additives and metals. Luckily though, plants are the strong cleanser your body needs. Plant-based diets also improve skin elasticity, which helps with wrinkles and looking tired all the time.
People eating WFPB diets can be spotted in a crowd for their glowing skin and vibrant eyes.
5. Weight Loss
This is the ever-elusive goal everyone seems to be going after. In the community we spoke with, weight loss was described as an effortless afterthought, especially compared to how deeply plant-based foods nourish your mind, body, and soul.
Roughly 70% of adults in America are suffering from obesity, and the top cause of death is heart disease. The two go hand in hand and the power to heal can be found in small diet changes over time.
Weight loss is a life-saving result of healthy eating.
The clarity, energy, pain management, disease reversal, and weight loss that plants give us have changed lives all around the world.
